After two days evaluating of 771 Washington wines, a panel of Seattle’s top wine connoisseurs have chosen the winners of the 2009 Seattle Wine Awards. Among the honorees are 12 AWB members.
"What makes the Seattle Wine Awards special is that the recognition really means something," said Christopher Chan, executive director of the awards. "The tasting panel is a diverse group of wine professionals that consumers already trust and who really know Washington wine. Their integrity is on the line and they take this very seriously. Through a single-blind format tasting they come to a consensus on the most outstanding wines. A consensus really speaks to the best of the best. There are many good Washington wines, but we’re recognizing the truly outstanding wines."
The wines that earn recognition in the Seattle Wine Awards should be considered Washington’s finest. On average, only a mere four out of 10 wines submitted earn an award.
Formal presentation of the Seattle Wine Awards will take place on Sunday, June 14 at Seattle’s historic Rainier Club. AWB members receiving awards are:
• Barnard Griffin Winery (Richland)
• Basel Cellars Estate Winery (Walla Walla)
• Cave B Estate Winery (Quincy)
• Claar Cellars (Zillah)
• Hogue Cellars (Prosser)
• Kiona Vineyards and Winery (Benton City)
• L’Ecole No. 41 (Lowden)
• Maryhill Winery (Goldendale)
• Matthews Estate (Woodinville)
• Pacific Rim Winemakers (West Richland)
• Sainte Michelle Wine Estates (Woodinville)
• Tsillian Cellars (Chelan)
Congratulations to the winners of the 2009 Seattle Wine Awards!
