Today's edition of the Puget Sound Business Journal carries a pro-con on the family leave legislation under consideration in Olympia.
State senator Karen Keiser makes the case for the proponents.
AWB president Don Brunell explains business concerns.
Good employers care for their workers. They offer creative solutions to cover emergency situations. Many let their employees bank sick leave for future use or donate banked leave to other workers in a pinch. These employers need more support for flexible leave policies that help employers attract and retain valuable employees.
Employers do not need, and workers cannot afford, a rigid and complicated mandate that taxes workers unfairly, raises costs substantially, and positions our state as anti-competitive and unfriendly to flexible and progressive paid leave policies.
Right.
